A Blind Heart

HADHRAT WAHAB BIN Munabbah (rahmatullah alayh) said: “A man who searches for this world (its wealth and for fame) with deeds of the Aakhirah, Allah Ta’ala makes his heart blind. His name is written in the record of the inmates of Jahannum.”

The pursuit of the Knowledge of the Deen and Ibaadat are for the acquisition of the Pleasure of Allah Ta’ala and the rewards of Jannat. Those who make the Knowledge of the Deen their means for obtaining worldly benefit and for attainment of nafsaani desires are the most despicable specimens of humanity according to the Hadith.

The Peril of Khiyaanat

Hadhrat Wahab Bin Munabbah (rahmatullah alayh) narrated the following episode which should be thought-provoking for men of the Deen who have failed to understand the meaning and gravity of khiyaanat.

There was a young man in the Ummat of Bani Israaeel of bygone times. After having led a life of sin and transgression he resolved to repent. After repentance he devoted his entire life to ibaadat and thikr. Ibaadat was his sole occupation for the rest of the 70 years which he lived after his repentance.

A Warning for Hired Scholars

A man asked Hadhrat Ibn Mubaarak (rahmatullah alayh): “Who is a pious man?”

Ibn Mubaarak: “A sincere practising Aalim.”

“Who is a king?”, the man asked. Ibn Mubaarak: The Zaahid in this world is a king.”

The man: “Who is a contemptible person?”

Ibn Mubaarak: “A man who earns the world (wealth, name and fame) with his knowledge and deeds.”

Punishment for Abstaining from Thikrullah

A MAN presented to Hadhrat Junaid Baghdaadi (rahmatullah alayh) a wild bird which he had caught in a net. The bird remained in the cage by Hadhrat Junaid for a very long time. One day Hadhrat Junaid opened the cage and the bird flew way. Someone enquired from him the reason for having released the bird. Hadhrat Junaid (rahmatullah alayh) explained:

Friends & Friendship

Hadhratwala (rah) narrated; There was a youngster - like one of today's youngsters - who had become friendly with another youth. The youngster's elderly father noticed his coming home late at nights and enquired, "One night, two nights, three nights, and now every night you are coming home very late. What is your story?" The youngster replied, "I go to visit a friend of mine. Sitting and talking with him, it tends to get a bit late."

Company of Bad People

Sheikh Saadi says that if any one associates with bad people, although their nature may not infect him, he will be supposed to follow their ways to such an extent that if he goes to a tavern to say his prayers, it will be supposed that he is going there for drinking wine.

He adds:

"When you have selected an ignorant person as your companion,
You have branded yourself with the mark of
ignorance
Do not associate with an ignorant man,
For if you are learned in such company you will
become an ass in course of time;
And if you are not learned you will become a
greater fool."

Severity of the Teacher

Sheikh Saadi (R.A.) relates that once in the course of his travels he went to the Maghrib country. There in a mosque he saw a school master who was sour faced, of uncouth speech, ill humoured, and of an irritating and niggardly nature. He behaved tyrannically with his pupils. He would strike them mercilessly, and would put their legs into the stocks. His behaviour became notorious and he was expelled from the school.

Purdah

Hadhrat Hasan Basri (rah) said, "never be in solitude with a woman even if she happens to be the rank of Rabiah (the renowned female saint of Basrah) and even if you had taught her the knowledge of the Kitaab of Allah".

Rasullulah (saws) said that when a man and woman are alone, the third one present is shaitaan. He will most surely succeed in casting them into imorality.

An Episode to Reflect!

Excerpt from book awaiting to be Published Shariat and Tasawwuf

Hadhrat Hakimul Ummat Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi (rahmatullah alayh), narrates the following awe-inspiring episode in which there is a great lesson for reflection. A man who was a resident of the town of Gawaaliya, India, spared no efforts in the English education of his son. (In those days of political serfdom) it was considered a honour to be educated along the lines of the British rulers). He expended a considerable sum of money in his son’s worldly education. After attaining the limits of English education which the institutions in India could offer, the Father despatched his son to London to obtain the highest qualifications in English education. The son passed his examinations in London with flying colours, but upon returning to India he became seriously ill.

The Prophets Love for A'isha (ra)

It is related from 'A'isha that the wives of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, fell into two parties. One party contained 'A'isha, Hafsa, Safiyya and Sawda, and the other party contained Umm Salama and the rest of the wives of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him. The Muslims knew of the love of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, for 'A'isha, so when any of them had a gift which he wanted to give to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, he would delay it until the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, was in 'A'isha's house. Then the person with the gift would send it to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, while he was in 'A'isha's house..
